Central Tram

Trams, commonly known as “streetcars,” run through central Toyama and are a favored means of local transport. Three tram lines run out of Toyama Station, operating every 10 to 20 minutes, making them very convenient for city sightseeing. The fleet of trams includes retro-style vehicles and low-floor (easy access) vehicles.

Vehicle Design

Toyama Chihou Railway’s fleet is comprised of a variety of different vehicles. To make your journey even more enjoyable, take some time to appreciate the design of the interiors and exteriors of vehicles such as the Moha 14760, which won the Laurel Award from the Japan Railfan Club (JRC), or the 10030, which makes use of the original Keihan Electric Express 3000.

There are a number of historic station buildings along the Toyama Chihou Railway that are worth stopping off for. Nishi-Uozu Station on the main line was built in 1936 (Shōwa 11), with details such as the signboard written horizontally from the right (as Japanese was written before the war) giving the building a nostalgic atmosphere. The front of Iwakuraji Station, a station that connects the Tateyama Line and Kamitaki Line, possesses a truly majestic roof.
